Atomica x Knifey Spooney

February 4, 2018

I used to be a very picky eater. Tudor still laughs at the time he made me a sandwich and I couldn't eat it because the peppers were touching the bread. Cue eye roll. But here I am, 10 years later, always dreaming about my bed and basically any food that I don't have to cook. Because...30s. I guess the only thing that I still don't like touching my plate is meat.

So you can imagine how thrilled I was to be invited to the Knifey Spooney vegan menu tasting at Atomica! First of all, any new delicious vegan food in this town is super exciting, second, Atomica is one of my fave places in Kingston. Period. The vibe is always nice. The prosecco even nicer. Also anything that closes the gap between this town and Montreal always puts me in a good mood.

We were greeted by a smiling Jessie and a delicious plate of charcuterie. I didn't know charcuterie could be vegan. Did you? I mean...I guess bread and olives. But this was way way better than just bread and olives. I don't know if you guys ever tried zaatar-almond chèvre or lomo di vegano (which is a kind of vegan salami) but they tasted so good, we're actually looking to buy some to eat at home.

Next came Jackfruit Bao Buns which I'm now addicted to. I'm seriously thinking about our next reservation at Atomica just so I can have more of them. I didn't even realize there was cilantro in them, which is my arch enemy in life. I guess that tells me al lot about the chef. If she can feed me cilantro, she's probably magical!

At this point I was almost full, but then I got teased with the most wonderful looking flatbread and I couldn't say no. I was starting to see a food coma in my future. But it was well worth it.

I saved a little room for the cashew mozzarella gnocchi that followed which were absolutely divine, but not as heavenly as the chocolate-chia pudding that really just made my evening. I mean, you had me at chocolate.

This menu is so worth it that I challenge any non-vegan out there not to love it. For realz you guys. Next time you're at Atomica have bite and tune into the Knifey Spooney magic. You won't regret it.

P.S. Me and the chef had a mini photo shoot and we're homies now.

Have a brilliant day!
Dora
